I'd always wanted a really large, simple wooden farmhouse sign, but I could never find the right stencil and I don't have a fancy cutting machine. So I started looking around for inexpensive options in the craft store and found big wooden letters.

Perfect!

Since I already had a wooden board and the necessary paint supplies at home, I just needed to purchase the letters.

Paint The Board

I started my project by painting the board. I didn't prime it, since I like a rustic look. I used acrylic craft paint and gave the board a few coats until it was sufficiently covered.

Age The Board

Once the paint was dry, I took my foam brush and a little bit of brown paint that I had diluted with water and rubbed it on the board to give it an aged look.

Paint Letters And Glue

I used the same brown acrylic craft paint - not watered down this time - to paint the letters. It was a messy job, since I used my hands to turn each one to cover them completely, but the paint washed off easily.

When they were dry, I spaced them out on the board, to make sure I liked the arrangement. Then I took my hot glue gun and used it to glue them down in place.

Hang It Up!

Lastly, I hung it up with a few picture hangers.

It was a quick and easy project and I love the way it looks.
