Upcycle old canvas to make these simple and thrifty faux granite wall art or back drops.

Take one or multiple canvases place them onto news paper or a paintable surface. Spray them lightly once with black spray paint. The spray paint can be gloss or matte, it doesn't matter. Make sure to do this in a well ventilated area, and have proper protective materials if need be. Wait for this layer of paint to dry fully.

Spray paint another layer of paint onto both canvases. Wait for this layer to dry. Repeate this step as many times as you need to, to fully cover the canvases. I had to do this just about 5 times to fully get both canvases covered. Make sure to also spray the edges. Let this layer of paint dry fully. If it's a sunny and warm day out, the paint will dry a lot faster.

Spray white paint from a distance to create small speckles. This is important since granite has specks that naturally occur.

Mix up acrylic white paint with water. It shouldn't be that viscous, but it needs to be able to create lines rather than splotches.

Create lines by fairly waving your paint brush over the canvas. Leave about a 4 inch distance from the brush and canvas. Hold the brush as a slight angle for the best result.

Use water and blend the acrylic paint out to create feather veins.

Continue to blend the veins out.

Let paint dry, and go over with 3-5 layers of gloss spray.

To make the white veins look darker lightly spray with black paint.

Let the canvases dry fully and off gas, this will take a few hours for them to not smell.

Now you can either hang these canvases or use them as a back drop for photography or video.
