We're working on our baby girl's nursery and wanted to add some interest to her bare walls. I always love a quick woodworking project, so we decided to go with chair rail and picture frame molding on the bottom portion in the room.

I love DIY projects like this because they're fast and satisfying! You can read all the tips (and watch a video with all of the steps) over in this blog post.

Blank Walls in the Nursery

With the sage green built-ins on the right making such a statement, the rest of the room was looking a tad boring for us.

Add Chair Rail Horizontally Around the Room

We decided to go 45″ off the ground for our chair rail installing it with liquid nails and a brad nailer. Traditionally, chair rail is hung much lower, but we liked this height as it works well with the furniture we have planned for the room.

Install Picture Frame Molding Below

Below the chair rail, we added picture frame molding to make even more of a statement. We used PVC base cap for this, cutting each end at a 45-degree angle on the miter saw. This too was attached with a brad nailer and liquid nails.

Painting It Sage Green

Before painting, we had to fill nail holes, caulk, and prime everything. Then we used our paint sprayer to add two coats of paint.

Our Finished Chair Rail

It turned out awesome and we love the character it brings to our baby girl's nursery.

Beautiful. Your little girl is one lucky bubba - built with love, BUT how did you manage to spray paint an indoor half wall. AMAZING JOB!

Husband and I bought a house in Michigan it was built in 1850. We restored it room by room and enjoyed every minute of it. A lot of it was a learning lesson for me. Thank you, when I moved to Arizona I made The inside of my southwest house look Victorian with the same furniture I’ve had in the 1850s house.
