When on my travels I love nothing more than walking along a beach looking for drift wood, shells and interesting sea worn and weathered natural pieces. I just returned from West Africa where I found some gorgeous pieces I wanted to preserve and decided to make a piece of unique wall art with them and some old recycled beads .
How to Make a Beautiful Piece of Wall Art From Beach Finds
The big piece of drift wood gets chosen to anchor the hanging pieces as it’s strong , characterful but lightweight.
I begin by using black jewellery making cord to make a hanging loop. I thread a coloured glass bead on to each end and tie all firmly with knots .
The thread my chosen beads onto the cord and knotting after each one to secure in place . The the sea shell at the base which i place a glass bead to weight and secure it.
When all beads are threaded on I make sure it is tied well to the driftwood and positioned well.
periodically most charity shops parcel up unsold jewellery into cheap bead packages and so is always worth asking your local shops and build your bead collection inexpensively.
I add more dangling colourful strings with my beach finds and beads. Always making sure each is tied firmly and with knots that anchor.
The piece gradually comes together and more colourful glass beads and shells. It is unique piece that doesn’t need much thought just go with what feels right and instinct will guide.
The varied lengths of cord dangles creates a balanced piece and finally I cut off loose threads tidy it up ready to hang on my wall.
now doesn’t that look delightful!
