Sofa Table Update

Phil bought this beauty back in 1980-something while I was still wearing a training bra and shooting rubber bands out of my braces.
Phil is anti-painted-wood. But he's coming around.

Don't get me wrong, I don't paint everything in sight, but some things are just begging for an update. Like our fine specimen above.

And guess what? Even Phil thinks it looks better now. Kinda like when I actually put makeup on. A little spackle goes a long way.

I sanded down the flat surfaces and stained them with General Finishes Antique Walnut. At this point, they looked almost exactly the same as before, which thrilled me to no end, as you can well imagine.

I added a layer of Varathane Kona, and Eddie von Schnauzer said it looked so good he would only hike his leg on it if he really had no other choice.
Thankfully, I used three coats of General Finishes Enduro Var to protect it.

Pee away, little buddy!
I painted the body with a half/half mixture of Annie Sloan Old White and Coco, and I sealed it with soft wax. I also put on some new knobs from Hobby Lobby.
Did you see my cross-stitch? I haven't done one of those in a dang long time. It's a good thing I finally unpacked it. It's the only way Philly can remember when we got married. And who he married.
We've come a long way, baby.
Eddie says thanks for stopping by, and see you soon!

I have the same exact sofa table from 1980-something. I love your version and would like to do the same to mine. Did you sand the bottom part before painting? Mine is a dark brown and top is in great shape.

Do you have to sand the area you painted? I have a cherry wood color table that's shiny. Thought I just needed to kilzt it then paint.
