Concrete shouldn't need much prep other than cleaning it. there are several concrete cleaners (a lot with acid) that they sell at the hardware store.

If the concrete is not level and has dips and major cracking, then you will need to fill it. We had this done when we had our carpet installed in our basement. However, you can buy the products yourself at the hardware store...if they are super bad and you are OK with doing it by yourself, you can buy a bag of QuickCrete and do it yourself. ...however, there are other "leveling" products.

When you go to install the laminate flooring, there is a plastic-y foam-y like material that you put down first. It helps with absorbing pressure, sound, etc...and does help with some comfort. This is also sold at the hardware store in the flooring section and the sales rep should be able to guide you.

Self leveling compound before vinyl, underlayment before engineered hardwood. For the record, engineered hardwood is the best, most stable flooring I've ever used. It's not best for bathrooms however
