How can I skim concrete over existing linoleum floor?

We have 1100 sq.ft basement floor and have tried taking it up. The house was built in 1974 no asbestos. I don't want conventional flooring of LVP, linoleum squares or carpet. I would like to skim concrete over this floor and then paint it and lacquer it. Is this possible to skim with concrete and if so, how thick should it be. We have painted concrete in the other rooms that did not have linoleum and it looks great. Thanks!

Hi Sheila, here's a video I found that may add to the info you have since you've done some concrete painting etc.in the past.

Also have you looked into a product by Rustoleum called "Rock Solid"? It's an expoxy that creates a beautiful shiny finish and is indestructible and gives an industrial vibe.
I’m not so sure it will adhere to the linoleum. It might be best to contact the manufacturer of the skim coat product to get their opinion.

I had my floors self leveled with Quikrete self leveling concrete. It was poured over vinyl 12x12 tiles. The new floor was placed over it, but you can etch the floors. Standard concrete floor slab thickness in residential construction is 4 inches.
Hello, I think you should be able to do this, hope this video helps you out,

You should be able to pour a new slab. 4" would be a good depth to prevent cracking but that is far more than a skim coating. you will need to clean and etch existing flooring so the concrete will adhere to it. Consider using a color in your concrete to keep from having to paint it. From our experience, painted concrete floors do not last even with a protective coating. My BIL was a mason for over 30 years and he always recommended coloring the concrete or staining over paint.

A 4” concrete slab is not a DIY project.
A skim coat of concrete won’t stick to old vinyl tile.
”Painting and lacquering” concrete sounds like you’ve seen a technique somewhere that you like?
Epoxy Floor Coatings would stick and can be done in any finish your imagination and skills can desire.
Thank you very much and I thought of using epoxy. You are correct a 4" concrete is not a DIY. That floor is gorgeous!
Thanks!
