Sand until it is smooth and then paint it. If you want to be fancy paint a design. You could even paint a area rug on the particle board.
You can incorporate your colors into the pattern you choose.
Would you like the particle board floor to just not look like particle board, or would you like to get rid of the rough feel to it as well?
Instead of spending money and time trying to transform it, have you thought about the possibility of covering it with (easy to clean) vinyl instead?
You could paint it then stencile it there are some realy nice ideas out there.
Paint with floor paint
I've seen some beautiful painted ones, even stenciled. The trick is to make sure you use the proper sealant. I would consult the pros at a shop on that one. Good luck!
Cover it with a Laminate or vinyl flooring
You could do the paper bag thing were you rip pieces of brown bag and ata h them to the floor all over and cover the hole cloor
