if it is not painted, all you have to do is get up there with a spray bottle and spray it with water... let it soak in a minute then use a drywall scraper and scrape away... if it's painted i will be harder and i dont know the answer... sorry

We scraped ours off but our neighbor/friend did his later and improved on our technique. He duct taped a wet/vac hose to the end of the scraper and vacuumed it as he scraped. We did cover all the furniture and floor before we started. It left a slightly rough ceiling but it looked great and took new paint very well. It looked planned that way. Wetting an area before scraping also helps to cut the dust. Good luck and hope it all works out for you. It is hard work and tedious but not difficult to do, if you know what I mean.
