Hi! First (and obviously) dig up where you want your flower beds to be. Then keep overturning the earth, removing any large rocks or foriegn objects and weeds, every so often, once or twice a week, until the first frost. Then cover. I use fallen leaves ..then turn them right into the soil in spring. Or use compost. This will help your soil and save alot of time next season! And yes, if you're planting bulbs, you can plant hardy bulbs now (such as iris and tulips...) tender bulbs (glads) should be planted in the spring. Hope this helps a bit!

  • You can direct compost now and let it break down over the winter. It's a great way to re-energize your soil. https://thekitchengarten.com/how-to-direct-compost/
