It is important the moon phase. It is better after full moon. Or wanning moon because the liquid retention of the trees... Let full moon phase passes and prune them without harm.
I'm in Texas, but this still might apply to you. Roses do wonderfully here. We had roses from Tyler Texas and they were hardy. My aunt taught me everything about taking care of them. They are not Knock out roses. These produced big blooms and would have two full and long blooming periods in the Spring and Fall. We trimmed here and there during the year, but after the last bloom in the fall, we would cut back the whole rose bush to about 12" branching. Be sure to trim just above the nodes that face the outside of the bush. If not, the stems will grow back toward the middle of the bush and will be a tangled mess next year. Gosh I miss them!
