Here is a video for you, Merlin. Maybe you can start several plants from this one, then you have a better chance of success with at least one healthy one. I've done that with several plants that were dying on me.

How to Propagate Crown Of Thorns. Simply take cuttings from your younger branches during thegrowing season. Quickly dip the end of your cutting into warm water to prevent the sap from running out. Lay your cuttings on a paper towel or newspaper for a few days to dry and callus the ends. Prepare a pot of damp sand.

What kind of climate is the plant in and what did the information given say?

My Crown of Thorns looks a lot like yours. It has been in a north facing window for 34 years. June of 2019 it will have been blooming every day since June of 1984. That is 35 yrs! It started blooming the day my daughter was born.

All I do to mine is water when the leaves begin drooping. Cut it back every 8-10 yrs and fresh soil when I cut it back. Scary how easy it is.

this plant needs western facing sun, and will tolerate some shade, for heavens sake give the poor plant a bit of manure!

Ok I just read some of her plant life material it sounds like the plant is stressed it will lose leaves I would take and put it in a cactus type soil check the roots it may need propagation make sure it's in a sunny south west corner and treat your plant like it's a lil person and mist it feed slow release it's like a cactus if you reuse container wash it good and see what happens if it's dormant you should have new leaves somewhere

Hi my experience with crown of thorns is that they love full sun. I live in the tropics and they do well in pots and straight in the ground. Perhaps you should revamp the soil, use a little fertiliser and give a weekly drink and that should perk it up. Add a little soil as well the pot looks a little small for such a big plant.

I'm just curious, why would anyone want a plant covered with thorns?

Marie: Because all of mine that I have planted outside have been blooming, year round, for 15 years in FL and I had them in CA as well. They look good and are practically care free except that I cover them when there might be frost in central FL.

PS, these are sad. Mine are full and not spindly like this.

Mine sits on the south deck as soon as it is warm enough. I hardly water, just rely on rain. when it gets cold it comes inside in a south window. I water once a month but not too much.

Just don't over water...needs lots of sun. Can be grown outside, really full and big in warmer areas. When grown inside and it starts to get thin and spindly, cut it back and root new ones in with it to make it thicker. Just cut off pieces and stick them in the dirt to root.
