Coffee grounds are good for tomatoes, because of the acidity. Egg shells are good for tomatoes also. I was reading that even putting shells in the hole before planting the tomatoes is good for them to help bear fruit. I am not sure about fish heads. I know they are good for corn.

  • Yup, my mom used to do this with sardines. My brother in law does this, as he lives on the coast and gets them for free from his local fishmonger. I use the coffee grounds on both tomatoes and roses. Here are some links for you.

  • Most definitely! Like what has been mentioned coffee rounds are good for tomatoes, and also Hydrangeas. My Mom used to toss used coffee grounds out the back door onto her Hydrangea plants. They were huge!
She used Fish Emulsion in the garden, I remember the cats eating the dirt! When ever we went fishing, the heads always were planted DEEP in the garden for the plants - deep so critters wouldn't get to them.

Both are good if dug into the soil. Fish heads may draw in the cats who could dig up your plants. If you plant radishes, placing coffee grounds into the hole first helps to dispel bugs that burrow into your radish.

Tomatoes are acid loving and coffee grounds are just perfect, be sure to add a balance of dirt, mix well.
If you have fish heads, bury them deep.

Yes and egg shells and banana peels. I dry them out and crush them in the blender and make a dust. Toss a couple spoonfuls in the hole before planting seedlings. you can also add them to a gallon of water and pour directly on. Smells tho!

I agree with above comments. Egg shells (ground up), coffee grounds, banana peels would all benefit your tomatoes. I use a mix of one-third soil, one-third manure, and one-third sand in my garden. The sand will help with water retention. I also just water the soil and roots, not the leafs. I use a soaker hose to water my garden every morning. Best of luck to you.

Fish heads will attract wildlife and ants. I agree with everyone above.

My parents and grandparents use to have us kids bury all the fish that washed up on the shore at the cabin in the garden. We always would bury the carcass after we cleaned fish also. The flower garden was always wonderful! If you put in the egg shells, make sure they are ground into almost at least a dust so that the calcium gets into the soil quicker. Pieces take a long time to degrade and get into the soil.
