Pruning rose of Sharon shrub may be done in late fall or winter after leaves drop or in early spring before buds form

to make it bush out more, cut back to ground level once every two or three years in late fall
Hello Fay. You can prune just about anything from Spring to Fall during months that have the letter "R" in their name. I have used this method for many years and have had good results. Hope this helps. Good luck.
