Hi Walter - YAY my composting friend! Here's a great 101-style article on getting started with composting and everything you ever need to know. Also how we DIY'ed building our compost bin. My Stepson built it for a Boy Scout merit badge. Hope this all helps and happy composting! Hugs, Holly

Here's 2 links, the first is how to compost and the 2nd is how to treat your compost to get the most out of it:

Best to you and thank you for composting!
There are also barrels on a stand available for making compost. They have a hole and lid in them where you add and remove the items. Toss in scraps, barrel gets rolled to mix items. I have never used one, but a neighbor has one. The nice thing is that the dog and local rodents are not attracted to the compost. Plenty of You Tube videos and gardening books show options.
I throw all of my scraps in a coffee container in my kitchen. Every few days, I bring them outside to my compost bin made from a plastic trash can.
You can build a compost area and throw these items in, then rake around weekly. If you want to have it in a more secure (from critters), you can purchase of make a compost bin. Make sure it has ventilation and you are able to turn/rotate regularly. I remember from a college science class that spontaneous combustion is an issue if you don't rotate it.
I use a plastic bucket with a lid (okay it is just an old ice cream bucket). Found that by keeping that in the freezer there is no smell or pest problem.
Then every fall we take our rototiller and mix that with the soil. Let it sit until spring and plant our garden again.
We also so that with a chicken poo (from cleaning the coop).

Hi Walter, this great infographic will give you a quick overview of what and how to compost - https://biobagworld.com.au/composting/why-compost-diverting-food-waste-from-landfill/attachment/how-to-make-good-compost-infographic-1/ The only raw vegetable that isn't suitable for composting in my opinion is onions, everything else is great.
