How can I fill in the 3" gap between my stove and the wall?

My electric stove doesn't push flush against the wall because of the permanent and unremovable gas hook-up that sticks out of the wall by 3". I don't want to remove it in case I have to sell the house and things are falling in-between the back of the stove, which is stand-alone, and the wall. I do not want to put in a granite backsplash; too plain and uncreative. Please help!

As you see in this picture we have a narrow shelf the length of the stove.
