You are going to have to prep the cabinets by cleaning, degreasing and sanding. Get a paint sprayer and spray a Primer on it. When dry, paint with color of your choice. There is a special comb tool to make the cabinets look like that. You can buy it at the hardware store or paint store

You don't mention what your cabinets look like now Victoria. Getting that wood look will take a bit of work because of the grain pattern and the different colors involved. Here's a tutorial that shows you a process that you might want to take on. It's one thing to do just a table top like this person has done but it's a bigger project to try and do an entire set of kitchen cabinets! It can be done but it might take a while!
