CK on Jan 13, 2016Hmmm....well that depends on what your family's and the room's needs are. Do you need storage or display space? Shelves would be nice. Do you only want it for display? A large artwork would be fantastic here that fits into about 3/4 of the space's measurements. I might even try to find some small piece of decorative furniture that would fit. (Kinda hard to tell the niche's dimensions on the pic). I was thinking maybe some little piece with interesting drawers etc. A lot of your choices will depend on the style of your home, what functions you need or want to create and your own personal choices. These niches are fun to have...and sometimes they create some conundrums. But it's always fun to be creative with them! :-)Helpful Reply

Hope Williams on Jan 14, 2016Hi Olena. It looks to be a decent sized space. I would layer it. By this I would use the bottom for a wine storage or kid storage. Then I would use a shelf that came out half way for the next layer. Wine glasses or books. Next I would put in a plate/platter rack. Then maybe depending on the room you have left, a couple more shelves. For the back, I would do a stencil with a pattern. Frame out with moulding and put half round on the front of the shelves. You have so very many options here. I'm sure you've had ideas already, just commit to doing one and you can always change it if you choose to. You also can put a light up too and use glass shelves too! Share what you are thinking, when you are finished too!Helpful Reply

Cherie Stembel on Jan 14, 2016Use it to your advantage...shelving with beautiful dinnerware or beautiful baskets for storage displayed. Or hang chalkboard/cork board for organization. If you have the skill (or know someone that does, you could even hang a beautiful door (perhaps the sliding barn door so popular today). Possibilities are endless!!Helpful Reply

Melly on Jan 14, 2016How about a 'command center'? I'd add shelves in the lower portion and assign everyone a basket for their stuff. One shelf would be a place to drop keys/mail. The upper portion would be pretty with a framed metal magnet board or bulletin board. Memo pads, pens, envelopes and the like.Helpful Reply

Lyndell on Jan 14, 2016Paint the interior with a really striking colour that you will repeat in other areas of the dining room (placemats etc) and put in glass shelves or rustic wood. Add doors to the lower part if you need more storage. Or make the lower part into a wine rack. Depending on your style I can see sea grass baskets with colourful fabric liners on wooden shelving. Or display family photos. Or wonderful items you've collected. You could paint the sides a strong colour and line the back with mirror. Or add plate rails to shelving to display favourite platters or dishes.Helpful Reply

LD on Jan 15, 2016Wall Niche is a place in which to display sculptures or art work depending on the size. Your niche is fairly large and it appears to be located near your dining area. I would take advantage of this space to create a built in display/storage area for decorative serving pieces for a place for stemware. You can either leave open or install a glass door, which would keep those items dust free, and if there is electric that you can tap into, you could add lighting as well.Helpful Reply

The Redesign Habit on Jan 15, 2016You could add shelves and make it into a built-in hutch to store and display beautiful glasses and dishes. Or, if you have a collection of something this would be a great spot to display that as well. I also love Jennifer's idea of a small bar area. This is a great spot for that and you could put a small counter and then shelving above and even go the extra mile and add the holders for your wine glasses under the last shelf above your counter. Add an ice bucket and some beautiful glass decanters to hold your libations and you would be good to go! You are lucky...this is a neat spot and please share what you do with it!Helpful Reply
