Seed Sack Cafe Curtains

Redesigning our 1934 farmhouse meant that we wanted to use as much original, vintage, and true-to-time period stuff as we could. Luckily, my mother-in-law has a deep attic and a collecting spirit!
When we talked about what I wanted to do for curtains in the big kitchen windows, I thought maybe I'd go with some canvas, or even a drop cloth, to bring in a vintage look.

Little did I know that my mother-in-law had a stock of original, 1950's seed and feed sacks in her attic!
These awesome, vintage seed sacks still contained some traces of seed, so she sent them through the washing machine on delicate.

I took the sacks and ripped the seams on the edges and bottoms to make a wider curtain, and then used curtain clips to attach the curtain to a tension rod.
I plan to put a muslin backing sheet behind the curtains (on the window side) to protect the seed sacks from the bright sunshine, but I was just too excited to bother with it for the time being. I figure a week won't hurt them too much!

Now I can see my beautiful farmstead, and some real life history, through my kitchen windows!
