Get a chimney co in and have your fireplace inspected. Lots of rust is not good. Need to have some work done and damper replaced.
Heatlilators are worth replacing and I would look at what you can finish removing yourselves.
It’s more expensive to heat a 60 degree differential than to cool a 30 degree one.
