I was given an old table that was unwanted and unloved but I thought that it was still in good condition and could certainly be loved again once I have transformed it .

i have a plan to bring new beauty to it with vitreous glass mosaic tiles .

Old table

I begin by covering the top with white paper using PVA glue. This helps give a good surface for tiles to stick to as well as create a blank canvas for me to plan design on.

Cover with paper

I decide to go with pinks yellows/ cream whites and black in a range of size 10 mm and 20 mm vitreous glass tiles . Planning the design is simple. I am using the shape to make circles beginning with the outer edge and working inwards.

Tiling

The tiles need a little gap between them for the grout later on. It’s so therapeutic to make tiled circles in lovely near pattern of colour.

Tiling

When it’s all tiled I put the last circle in the centre and leave to dry over night before grouting.

Ready to grout

I mix up a dark grey grout that is like a smooth paste consistency and spread it onto the centre working it into all the gaps and edges. Best to wear rubber gloves for this bit.

Grouting

When it’s all covered it’s time to wipe of carefully all the excess with a damp cloth and give the piece a cleaning and let it dry. A further clean also helps to bring up all the tiles and colours.

Wipe off excess grout

Hey presto such a beautiful up cycled coffee table
