  • Light paint on the walls, lots of lighting, mirrors. Shop at second hand and thrift shops for mirrors, you can always paint the frames to coordinate with your decor. Metallic finish accessories and accent with light or bright color pillows, throws, etc.

Naomie is right light paint for the walls and bright white paint for the ceilings, mirrors that are placed so they reflect some of the light that does in your living room. A light colored area rug if you flooring is dark. Bright colored artwork. If your couch and chairs are dark colored light tailored covers may be the answer. Consider getting light bulbs that are higher wattage then what you currently have. We found a ceiling fan with light provides a lot more light since it is mounted at ceiling height instead of just sitting on a coffee table. By purchasing LED bulbs in warm white tones equivalent to an old 100 watt incandescent bulb, you will markedly increase your light output. Costco sells these bulbs in quantities of 6, and they will last almost 20 years.

Purchase light colored fabric lampshades with fabric (not plastic) liners.

Taller lamps in room corners or tall table lamps provide better light.

Large wall mirrors will help, as will lighter colored fabrics, as previously suggested.

Paintings under glass relect more light than those without glass.

Metal surfaces on tables and lamps also better relect light.

Use of porcelain items in your decor will further enhance your light.
