I have removed the shade but do not want to fiddle with electricity to take the base down, any suggestions to make it look like it should be there?

You could consider purchasing a large drum shade that would cover all of it up to the ceiling.

The base is square so I would have to buy a square shade and I have considered doing that.

Make sure you turn the electric off before replacing. Check uTube. Usually can find info on how to. Otherwise, Home DePot has people who are happy to show you how to do a project.

I don’t want to replace it, because then I am dealing with the electrical aspect. I just want to do something with it to make it look like a base for maybe a diy chandelier.

  • Hey lea,use painters tape and paper and tape it off all the way around, stuff wadded up newspaper in sockets and spray paint it

Paint it. ( I would tape some poster paper around it to keep paint off the ceiling.) Rustoleum makes a variety of metallic colors; i bet a brushed nickel paint would really look great because it will lighten it up so much. Best wishes.

    Clip on shade.

  • If you want to make it look like a chandelier, buy a clip on shade then take it apart, use the frame to hang beads, crystals etc with fishing line

  • You said you already removed the shade, maybe you can fix up the one you already have. Was it glass? People are having a hard time answering your question because it wasn't very specific

Here is a pic with the shade on. It is held on the base by four short corner posts

Paint it to match your ceiling and it will disappear. I have a white fixture in my office and it blends in to the ceiling.
