How do I keep my desk at home cleared and organized?

Its like an archeological dig to find something on my desk!! It's a continuous pile of mail, paperwork, "To Do" stuff, computer stuff, and various other gadgets. I can never get caught up. When ever I straighten it up, it is a total mess again within a week. How can I keep it organized on a daily basis?

Drop files and bins. I have a "clutter" bin that is a catch all and then I clean it out each week. But most I try to put in drop files and they are labeled for the month. Weekly I make myself sit and go through everything.

Bìns, baskets and cubbies ! Make it habit of never , ever , ever just tossing something on your desk . Have a family meeting and make a new house rule: the next person that just throws something on the floor , furniture , top of your desk (instead of the neatly labeled bin or basket) THAT person is responsible for scrubbing the bathrooms for next month or cleaning up some other part of the house or yard . You will be amazed at well your family starts helping to keep up with their own clutter . Then perhaps you won't feel quite so overwhelmed . Good luck !

I like stacked trays, with colored plastic file folders. Red for urgent, green for receipts, etc.

STacked trays and cubbies for each type of clutter, the biggest thing is to train yourself to use them! Make a pact that you will only put things in the proper spot and not only the surface of the desk

I love my file folders. Everything has a folder and when I'm organizing it, I scan as much as I can and save it if I really don't need the hard copy. You can do it!!

I am a former desk cluttered person. I tried the bins, the stackable containers, and all that achieved was keeping more stuff. What works for me now is this: on the floor, yes the floor, next to my desk, I have 3 boxes. The boxes are not huge, but are big enough to hold regular sized paper (8.5" x 11"). (my boxes are from Amazon from purchases I made there) I kept the 4 flaps of the boxes on instead of removing them, and used a magic marker to write on them, so that when I glance down, I know what is in each box. I labeled them this way: Keep/File ... Shred.... and Recycle. Now instead of having a stack of paperwork on top of my desk, I now have a clean desktop. Why did I put the boxes on the floor? It forces me to pick them up when I vacuum the floor, which then reminds me to file/shred/recycle what is in the boxes. This is probably the cheapest way to organize a desktop. If you don't have any boxes on hand, you can ask for empty boxes just about any where. I've gotten them from several grocery stores, Walmart, and even liquor stores. Try the box method before spending any money on more items you just put on your desktop, that way, if it doesn't work for you, you have nothing invested.... no $$$ thrown away.
