What's an interesting, inexpensive way to store hundreds of books?

We are a nonprofit book that gives books to kids of the incarcerated. Generous donors have given us 100s of books but right now they're in boxes snd we don't know what we've got. We need to pick a variety to distribute to the kids.

What a wonderful organization ! I love to read. I don't know what kind of storage space you have but the easiest thing I can think of is book shelves . They can be made fairly cheap by using cinder blocks and pallet wood (free.)

The above link doesn't even require cinder blocks , but it's just to give you an idea of how to do it . Good luck and thanks for encouraging the next generation to read!

Love your organization, what a wonderful thing you are doing! If you can find crates for free you could stack those to display the books. I like the pallet idea too, you can get pallets for free, as well. If you can find free ladders from somewhere, you can display them on the steps of ladders. You can also get cable spools from companies for free and use those as round book holders.

Put free add in the local paper, on radio, and on yard sale sites on the net asking for donations of bookcases. You might have to pick them up but you might be surprised at what you get.

You could organize them on bookcases according to author or age appropriateness or topic/theme.

Great time to recruit some teens, especially if they need community service credits, and let them do the sorting and deciding. Check you local ReStore or Thrift Store for bookcases.

Turn a room into a Library! Fit shelving all around the walls up to the ceiling!

Sort the books into Age - Subject -etc. Another idea might be to sort into labelled boxes that stack.
