How can I decorate outdoors by myself?

Most outdoor décor requires 2 people to put up, lots of trips to the storage barn. I am short winded so just able to get a few things done. Do not want to ask for help. Stupid I guess.

    Hi Julia,

Being short winded can make simple tasks we used to do a challenge. When we decided to not outdo ourselves each year we simply cut back on the amount we decorate. Then we got rid of the decorations that were taking up valuable storage space.

One suggestion is to have a friends and family decoration party to put up and another to take the decorations down, serve simple snacks and rinks, but do this after they are put up and after they are taken down. Pizza would work well!

  • Do it in stages! Doesn't have to be done in one day. Use a wheelbarrow, wagon or cart, whatever you have to transfer to the space that needs decorating. Out of the blue I started having dizzy spells, scheduled for an MRI next month. Took me 2 days working in short spurts to get the house lights up. And my house is small compared to most. I live alone so If I want help I need to pay for it. Work for as long as you can safely manage, then rest or do something else and come back to it. Or do as Redcatcec recommended, order a pizza or two, some sodas, water and storebought sweets will do the trick. Or bake cookies as a thank you. This year I am only decorating the outside and front porch and will place something pretty in the front window and call it a day. No visitors this year, and I just don't feel like doing much.

Placing a pre lighted (LED, battery operated) wreath will save you from having to drag out extension cords.

Install tall candy canes, trees, snowmen that have ground pins, along your walkpath, every 4'.

Lights can be hung on previously installed nails, or on "command strips" by 3M corporation, if surfaces are flat. You can use an extension pole to raise light strings into place.

    Use "net lights" on shrubs.

Set your lights on an outdoor timer, to save on trips outside.

Lanterns with greenery and weatherproof battery operated and timered lights can be hung on posts, from trees, or placed along a drive or path.

Wrap artificial or real garlands around porch posts and railings, with weatherproof ornaments tied to them, or a large, weatherproof bow, attached with zip ties.

" Wrap" your front door with reflective wrapping paper and a large bow.

Use sized styrofoam balls in an outdoor planter with greens, lights, ribbons.
