How do you mount an outside light by an entry door on vinyl siding?
Our vinyl siding is "lapped" so it is not a flat surface. Is there some form of a mounting "plate" that would overlap or help make the light become flush against the siding? Does my question make sense?! Sorry, I'm a senior and it's hard for me to describe the situation ...

Yes we have such a mounting plate that our contractor installed.
Its helpful in my opinion to paint this plate before installation if you wish it to match your siding. Mine bothered me being a white plate with my tan siding a black lanterns.
Go to Lowes or Home Depot. There are vinyl mounts for all types of lighting for vinyl siding.

There should be proper edge pieces for vinyl siding for light and electrical boxes. Check with your local hard ware or building store
