How do I get rid of fleas from my house and cat?

Here's a link to some helpful treatments. We sprayed our yard and have been giving the cats flea meds from the vet, but last time we applied it, one of our cats went bald in that spot.

As for the house, I used the sudsy plate method with a tealight and it worked like a charm.

The cat must be dipped at the vet, then use diamatious earth on the carpet and overstuffed furniture. Be sure to put lots next to the baseboards, where they tend to hide. This must stay down for 10 days fleas reproduce every seven days. This will even get the second generation.

The least toxic way that works really well is - baking soda. However, this will not work if your cat goes outdoors and brings them back inside. Shake the baking soda heavily over the carpet, floor, furniture - whatever and wherever you suspect they're hiding. If you can bathe your cat in plain water, then try adding baking soda to the water and the fleas should -- flee. Just remember to rinse well because the baking soda is drying and your cat will want to groom and doesn't need the extra salt. After 12 hours, vacuum all the baking soda up and toss it. If you have a really bad infestation, you may need to repeat the process in 12 to 14 days to break the cycle.

Get ready for a solid month of non stop cleaning!

Everything, and I mean everything needs to be washed, vacuumed and treated! Including your cat. If you can't wash your cat, take to the vet. I am not a chemical person, Dawn dish soap will kill fleas and so will vinegar. Empty your vacuum cleaner after every session.

Or just call flea busters and pay a boatload of money. You will still have to wash everything and they use chemicals.
