I use Dawn mixed with water. Saturate the area. Works for me! Boiling water can kill everything around. Good luck!

Ebie is right about boiling water. If it's a large colony, you may need to do it again if you start seeing activity. Also, ants have a couple of entrances/exits. If you see more ant hills in the area, try to treat them, too. Be generous with the boiling water!

To get rid of an ant hill boil a five quart pot of water with three to four tablespoons of cayenne pepper, and pour it directly on the hill. I know it sounds sinister but, your unwanted house guests can't visit if they don't exist.

If they are already in the house, mix 8 ounces of water with ten drops of peppermint essential oil and spray your cabinets, and anywhere you have a water source. This will cause them to leave.

    Best of Luck!

Boiling water works! Like a few others said, keep up with it a few times before expecting long term results

I would go the Diazinon Insecticide route. Very good on ants and you're not hauling boiling water in and out.

Diazinon Insecticide works absolutely wonderful on ants outside of house.

COFFEE GROUNDS to get rid of ants. I always save grounds and let them dry. Sprinkle where the ants are "bugging" you and...no more ants. The first time I used the coffee grounds, the ant hill had no activity the next day. But...I had a "new" ant hill about 3 feet away from the original one. I put coffee grounds on this hill and it was gone the next day. By now if it has reappeared it is in the neighbors yard. I think it's fair trade for the poop that his dog left in my yard!

We use grits around the mounds when eaten it will dry the ant out and kill it

  • packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are coming in if you can find it, or even on your counter in a small lid. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.
