How do I get rid of weeds?

Since our winter gave us more rain than usual this year, my yard is blooming with weeds. How do I get rid of them without the squat and pull method?

Unfortunately, you’re looking at applying chemical weed killers.

I pull out the obvious ones, like the poppies & daisies and transplant a few of them to moderate success. The violets I ignore and the dandelions I pull their blooms off when I’m not squatting & digging with a dandelion spade.

Liming your soil should raise your pH. Weeds tend to grow more in acidic soils.

It is not that pH isn’t important to plants and microbes. For the most part, we’re happy to have it be between 6 and 7 to have the healthiest plants.

Knowing the pH value, however, doesn’t help us much with soil management decisions, and it certainly shouldn’t be used to determine how much lime to add to the soil. pH is the result of the elements in our soil, not the cause. https://www.gardenrant.com/?guest_post=please-stop-liming-your-soil-based-on-the-ph “It is usually several years before a lime application has a measurable effect on soil pH, especially in the subsurface,”

Hi Maria, you can pull or dig out as many weeds as possible. Hope this helps, mix 1 cup of salt. 1 tablespoon of dish soap. 1 gallon of vinegar, pour into a spray bottle and spray weeds. Be careful not to spray plants that you love.
