First is your yard landscaped? Good healthy ground cover will choke them out. Yard weed guard cloth and gravel will help some also. If it is not-- get enough full newspapers to paper your yard. They have to be at least 4 layers thick. Lay them and water well, let your dogs, neighborhood kids what ever run over the papers.(or use a roller from a garden store). This attaches all the loose seeds to the paper and is easy to dispose and rake/pull up the plants. then in the spring be diligent pull all baby plants. Good luck they take a while to get rid of. FYI put a soft rug outside your doors, better it catch those monsters than your bare feet.

As for stickers; if the are what is called Texas sandburrs, you need to pull them up as much as you can, making sure all the little leaves and stickers are also picked up because they will both reroot. Then crowd them out with grass!!

My yard is also over run with goat heads. I live in the desert so we do not have grass, at all! I will try this! Sounds like this will work! :)

Fertilize your lawn. It will kill the weeds/stickers.

Mow the yard or scythe it. Collect all the stuff and burn or bin it!

Burn it off with a blow torch! and keep the dogs away for a while afterwards, check the yard and then use the blow torch again & repeat as long as is necessary to completely get rid of them.
