What can I use to kill weeds in sidewalk cracks?

    One cup of salt to one gallon water. Saturate the weeds and they'll wither in a few days. The object is to get down to the roots. Warning: this will kill everything.

    grass. Very effective on weeds, etc.

    Round up is very toxic to the environment

      Spot weed killing with round up is not toxic to the environment. The problem is using it on a large scale such as farms growing round up resistant plants. This large scale use is actually reducing the amount of dill weed needed to feed catipillars leading to reduced butterflies. Killing weeds in your sidewalk is not going to starve much of anything.
