Diatomaceous earth
In the house? I'd call a good exterminator. Your yard? I used Spectracide dry insect killer, spread all over the yard with a fertilizer spreader when we lived in Arkansas. They place was crawling with ticks. Ended our problem.
Diatomaceous Earth works great and it is safe for animals and kids. I also try to clean up along the wood lines. Then I apply liberally in the wood line. I reapply it a few times a year.

Diatomaceous Earth is a great way. It is safe for animals, and kids. This is a powder made up of crushed coral and sea shells. Any insect with a exoskeleton ends up dehydrating and drying up. The shells cut the insects exoskeleton. Before I put it out I also clean up as much of any tree lines as I can. They love the dark, and moist.
Hi Mary, Eucalyptus oil is known as an effective tick repellent and killer. Just combine 4 ounces of purified or distilled water into a small spray bottle along with 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. You can also use diatomaceous earth.
