First have a plan. Consider your lifestyle. Do you want a patio for entertaining, relaxing and eating? A grill, smoker or bbq? Outdoor kitchen with amenities? Children's play yard? Dedicated dog run? Cutting garden? Vegetable and herb garden? Spa? Then set a budget. The yard can be developed over several seasons or years as funds permit. Look through magazines and on Pinterest and landscaping sites and make note or print what you want to have. Take little bits from here and there then pull it all together. If you are having trouble on your own, hire a landscape designer or architect. I know exactly what I would love to have, I just do not have the budget, so I make do with what I have and can afford.
What is the purpose/purposes you want your yard to serve?
You have a really great layout for entertaining. In order to set the ambiance, try adding a pond, or a Japanese inspired garden, or even just a beautiful garden. Adding some patio furniture will give your guests a place to sit. We actually built a bench out of cinderblocks and 4x4's on our blog. They hold a lot of weight and can be a cost effective way to get outdoor seating (link below)! Another easy way to add ambiance is lighting. Whether that's through string lights in the tree or solar lights or even a fire pit, any lighting sets the mood for a great time.
