How would changing a small front yard from grass to gravel look?

I have a smaller front yard with lots of landscaping beds. I would like to cover the areas of grass I have left with gravel. Has anyone else tried this? If so, how did it turn out, and what steps did you use?

It can look very sculptured and neat, IF you have enough barrier and grass killer to keep the grass out. Life will find a way. Just stay vigilant. Jewell
Remove grass with a sod cutter is best. Kill grass instead if you want. Add heavy duty landscape fabric. Lay down 1/2" flexible drip irrigation pipes in case you want to have sprinklers in the future. Add about 3" of rock. We have basalt rocks, but any rock will do. Our entire front yard is rock, and plants are being added periodically.
Very popular in my neighborhood.
