DIY Magnetic Chalkboard

Wanting a magnetic chalkboard for the kitchen....this DIY upcycle from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore works nicely.
This original panel (pictured below) was $8 at the ReStore.

BEFORE

A disk cutter was used to remove the brackets.

A grinder was used to remove the finish on the frame. (Nothing else was done to the frame as if it rusts it will just add to look.)

Then using a flapper disk the remaining weld was removed restoring the original shape of the tubing. Also, removing the powder coat finish.

The center panel was removed from the frame, for grinding, simply by taking the screws out.

Using the flapper disk the powder coat finish was removed from the entire frame. Leaving an industrial type finish.

After thoroughly cleaning the center panel, (leftover) chalkboard paint was applied evenly.

Two holes were drilled in the back of the frame for mounting on the wall.

(Holes were measured 10 in from the outer corners.)

Panel and frame were reassembled.

Mounted to wall.
