Paper Mosaic

Ive never worked with mosaic, but saw an inspiring photo in the web that showed a table covered with "mosaics" made with antique china pieces, cups and saucers, with shabby chic design. It looked so beautiful! I didnt have the china, so I thought: why not imitating it with paper?...
This was the original piece. It had been beautiful but at present it looked disgusting!
I had to peel off the old laminate. It was really hard work!
Sanded and painted white.
This was the inspirational web image. I decided to try something similar, but only using paper...
Drew my project on paper repeating original size an shape
and chose nice shabby chic papers, the ones used for scrapbooking.
cut squares and rectagles and there I went! Started by centre and went all around, glueing piece by piece.
Upper part of the table almost finished...
and a different design for the down part
Used varnish, many coats, on the whole piece, but then added what really made the difference: dimensional crystal paint. This paint that I applied on each paper square gave volume and shine as if they were real mosaics.
In this photo you can see some paper mosaics with and some without the dimensional paint yet. Can you see the difference?

Did you glue the card stock on and paint each one individually with the dimension paint? Or paint over whole thing? Did you seal the whole surface with another product? It is beautiful. Would love to try it. TY for any info you can give.

This is so beautiful. I have always wanted to try mosaics but have been afraid to. This I can do. I was wondering though, mosaics usually have some kind of filler between the tile. Is there some way to achieve that look or does the paint on the paper tiles help with that? Thxs
