I found a mirror the will fit onto my dressing table, hoever it is not the actual mirror
so I need some help on how to fit this mirror so it looks like it belongs on my dressing table. Also I'm not sure if I should paint it so it looks uniformed or attempt to refinish the entire dressing and mirror. Any one how any suggestions?
This what it looked like before the 3 way hinged
mirror was broken into pieces
new mirror I found on a antique sell and buy sit

the new mirror will mount on the top of the table

  • Wonderful pieces! I would enlist the help of a local cabinetmaker to help you reassemble her. You can purchase new mirrors to fit the original 3 way hinged piece and then have reattached. Or use the new "old" mirror - but a new piece of wood will need to be introduced to fill the void if attached on top. Maybe they can make you a drawer or cubbie? Then you might need to refinish the entire piece.

I would go with the original 3 piece hinged and get new mirrors and put back together. Save the new mirror piece for another project in another room. That piece would look great on an entryway console or add to an existing dresser in another bedroom.

Just my thoughts off the top of my head . . .

No matter what you decide, you saved some cool pieces and they will look great!

You have a very nice piece but I think it is older than the 1940s. I think it is from the 1920's. I would recommend replacing the mirror in the original parts, even if you have to use clips to hold it in the center part. Your new mirror is pretty nice too. Either way, painted or unpainted would be nice. You would not have to go to a lot of work to refinish, You mainly want to freshen it up. a good paint store could give you advice.

You might try these guys for custom mirrors.... https://www.dullesglassandmirror.com/custom-glass?gclid=CjwKCAjw_dTMBRBHEiwApIzn_MRjmDeEcbfO4x3TspKGgBhYhcs1zsu9mk0Si2zwG4guM5kdKEeBXRoCo0QQAvD_BwE

I would make a custom paper template of the pieces, ship to them if they agree to do it. Call first and send them the photo.

The mounts are already at the bottom of the new mirror. If it fits into the space , just saw off the "wings ." I wonder though , if it wouldn't have been easier and more economical to just go to a glass shop and mirrors put in the original framework . Mirror isn't that expensive .

I would get two pieces of wood approximately 1" thick, 2" wide x 6" long, screw the wood onto the back of the mirror on either side vertically leaving about 4" tail to hang below the bottom of the mirror. screw the "tail" into the side of the dresser. As you are trying to make this look like one unit, I would paint both pieces using the same finish to unify the whole...

Put some new glass in the original.
