You can buy veneer from a craft shop that can be ironed on. good luck!
Are you wanting to paint the veneer? Its possible with a good primer. I like Zinnser BIN. It sticks to anything and helps paint stick. Plus it self levels and dries quickly.

Do you want to leave ot wood tone or use something like chalk paint?
