Not sure with regard to if chalk paint would adhere to it without sanding or not. Otherwise, sand to rough up the surface, then apply Kilz primer (2 coats), then apply your paint. Afterwards you may want to apply a polyvinyl sealer.

You could start with buying new knobs. There are so many to choose from. Sometimes a simple change like that will give the ddresser a new look and make a big difference!

Use only good graded spray painter with primer added... Paint always in places where air comes in though dust being limited;& use safety procedures..eg, good plastic gloves & mask up.

If required tape up areas... when completed allow 24 hours of complete drying( i dont care what the can says, lots of info is false so more products can be bought..)

For a total finish use either a gloss or matt clear sealing paint/// use small to medium brushes(not cheap though not super expensive either... mid range will do & wont leave brisstles.) Paint always across ways ( some small areas you can change the stroke angles)... One good coat is all that you will require, & this method usually lasts a very long time~ though not if you move around a lot.

    Happy crafting:)))

I like the idea of getting new knobs. That will definitely improve the look! Then I would pick a chalk paint color your like and give this guy a fresh look!

If you want to paint use polish remover to take off the shine then paint will adhere to the surface. I would paint the top and change or paint the knobs. Looks like a cool piece.

  • You may want to consider decoupaging the front. Here's one I did:

Spray paint works great on veneer satin, remove all hardware and drawers and be sure to use light coats for perfect professional coverage then add new hardware and your project will be re- vamped📌🎄❄️

You need to use a Special Primer first. Look in your local diy store.
