How do I apply wax to metallic chalk paint?

I have painted over a dozen pieces of furniture in various colors of FolkArt wax paint, and followed it all up with the same brand of clear wax, and done some distressing with antique wax. This is my first time using their color Metallic Gold. Instructions still say to cover with wax, but when I tried to apply the wax it started to strip the paint. The drawers are the metallic paint. I repainted the part that stripped. Thank in advance for your help!!
I painted a couple of night stands with Metallic Silver by RustOleum and didn't put anything over it. That was 4 years ago and they have held the finish with no issues.
I would suggest either leave and see how it hold up or put a clear water based poly over it.

Are you rubbing the wax in really hard? Just lightly touch a small amount on a rag with one finger and LIGHTLY spread it an area and GENTLY move the wax in a small area. Just a tiny bit goes a long way. It seems like your are rubbing too hard.
Another option is to call the company or contact customer service online. They usually know any issues and how to deal with them. Good luck and stay safe!
What is this dresser made from? If it was/is a laminate it's possible that you needed to prime first. If you try to paint over laminate with chalk paint or any other kind of paint without giving the laminate a light sanding and primer first--this can happen.
Why not apply watermarked poly instead.

Oh gosh! Sorry this is happening to you especially when you are comfortable with the wax materials. I actually don't usually antique with wax so I can give you another method which might work better but you would need to buy different materials. When I antique I use a glaze. If you buy Benjamin Moore glaze- mix 1 part paint to 3 parts glaze, you would apply into the crevices or wherever and wipe away. This is how I am used to doing it and it works great. If it helps and doesn't strip the paint and you are still able to antique the hard work you put into it, then GREAT!!! I have tried waxing before but I do love the glazing method better. Good luck!

I would leave it be and just do a clear poly spray over it
