You could mount a box on top of the pedestal to raise the tabletop.
Add wood to top of pedestal or replace with legs the correct height.
I've considered both. I am wanting to keep pedestal rather than go with legs.
Standard dining table height (to the top surface) is 28 to 30 inches while countertop height is 36 inches. If you want to use the pedestal to hold an extension of your counter, then measure the exact height. Note that you will probably need to use plywood as a base for any other surface material and this thickness should be part of the total. You can add wood below the base pedestal to increase the total height. Bun feet (as shown below) are easy to attach and come in a variety of shapes and sizes to match various furniture styles, though you may have to order them from a specialty store. You can also add a short section of post to the top of the pedestal, then wrap it with wood that matches the rest of the base to increase height. However, this requires more tools and experience. http://www.workbenchmagazine.com/main/images/wb283-porch12.gif
