How do I cover extra large cushions

Debbie

I have teak furniture with these huge cushions that I can not replace but need to recover and I can not sew except to hand stitch something. Ugh, help.

Remove the old fabric to use as a pattern. You can use "stitch witchery" and an iron to make your seams. Then use some Velcro to seal up the area where the cushion goes in. You could hand stitch it closed after stuffing.

Hi Debbie, I also can't sew at all but what's nice about big cushions that don't move is that no one ever sees the back side. Wrap it up in the fabric of your choice and simply secure it on the back. Clips, large thread etc. will work just fine.

I can't sew either haha. Maybe use heat and bond sewing tape? It simply irons on. I am not sure how durable it would be if the furniture gets use everyday. I have seen covers on Amazon, but I am not sure how large yours are. Hope this helps :)

Lay your old cushion cover on top of your new fabric. Cut the new fabric to size leaving approx. 2″ overhang around the old cushion cover.

Apply a line of fabric glue along the edge of the new fabric, then fold it over and adhere it to the bottom side of the old cushion. This process is a lot like wrapping a present!

Now apply the fabric glue the exact same way but to the other side of the fabric, fold it over and adhere to the old cushion. Next, adhere glue to the top portion of your new fabric, then fold it over and adhere to the old cover.

Now we need to adhere the new fabric to the section of the old cover where the zipper is, still keeping the old cover’s zipper accessible. If you have a clean fabric edge (image below illustrates this), you can simply trim it and line it up with the zipper, then apply the glue and adhere to the old cushion. Or you can fold the new fabric under, apply the glue, then adhere it to the old cover.

All sides of the new fabric should now be secured to the old cushion. Your no-sew cushion cover is complete!

  • I've used iron on tape with great success.

Get a piece of plywood apply glue adhesive and wrap in pillow batting. On the 'back' of the pillow (the side that rest on the chair) wrap it like a gift and staple the fabric to the board
