laminate is more of a picture of wood than a real wood. If you can tell from the under side what it is made of...there might be a chance. I would look up furniture refinishing places, take a few photos with you of the table top. Some places will tell you to diy it...but will tell you how and what to use.Helpful Reply -

First you need to make sure the laminate is glued tightly. Then I'd sand it lightly, put on a good primer then paint or for something different, cover it with a uniquely patterned material. If you do that, you'd have to polyurethane the material.Helpful Reply -

sand it first to dull the surface, wipe off any debris, use a primer in the surface, you can use a spray primer, then just use a durable paint on itHelpful Reply -

You can lightly (fine grit) sand the top. Make sure the laminate is secure to the wood under it. And then apply your stain and polyurethane. Or....paint it!Helpful Reply -

Take off the old laminate. Pick up a sheet of new laminate, at home depot along with some laminate glue. Stain to match after glue hardens.Easy to do, also replaced a worped laminated front front door, an also laminated an old bathroom painted cabinate an also a wall to match.Easy to do, just follow directions, on the glue, an ask persons at home depot. You'll be amazed at how wonderful it'll look. I never did anything like these jobs before, & l'm a 4'10" woman, with no construction experiance..Helpful Reply -

i would go to lowes and get a nice piece of oak plywood sheet and have them cut it to size .. i would router the edges if you have access to it .. and then glue it to the exsisting table topHelpful Reply -
