paint an under coat of any color you like, let dry well. Then run a candle over the edges and at random. Paint with an off white and use the paint sparingly. Even try to thin out the paint with a little water. You should be able to see the undercoat color and the wax prevents some of the top color from sticking.
My daughter does this.
I tried this too but did not use the candle and it came out very nicely.
Hi Peggy,
I would say use a brush. That will give it more texture than spraying it. One trick that I've read about is using vasoline on the parts of the stand that you want to be green. That way when you paint the blue it won't stick and will come off easily. Another way to get the shabby chic look would be to sand the blue down to the green after the paint has dried. You might also try milk paint which should give you a very shabby chic look. Here's a project from another Hometalk member to show you how that would look. I hope this helps. Wishing you the best.

You should use chalk paint for a pretty shabby chic look.

Chalk paint is easy to use. Plus it's easy to distress. When distressing, try to keep it in places that would receive natural wear and tear.
Paint in what way you prefer. Paint base color, clear coat, allow to sit for at least a day to cure enough. Then paint second color and distress immediately and gently with a scotchbrite or similar scrubby.
Hi Peggy! I can tell you how to paint your furniture with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint :)
It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle.
Step one: Clean with White Lightning
Step two: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in a blue color. We have several options for you to choose from!
Step three: Wet distress or sand the edges so that the green shows through underneath
Step four (optional): Use any of our clear coats or waxes for extra protection or a different style finish
