  • You could take a picture of the china cabinet to a local antique dealer and ask them.

sometimes you will find mfg info inside the drawers or the bottom of a drawer as well

Sometimes the manufacturer leaves their identity in the hardware of the furniture.

Hi Robin, I believe that's a bow front china cabinet which was probably manufactured by Drexel. I think that one is part of the Travis Court Collection and would have been made sometime in the early 1950's to the late 1960's. The MAH stands for mahogany.

Mah is Mahogony finish & color. Take this picture to where you bought the piece and see if they have any info about this. Have you checked the back and inside the drawers to make sure there aren't any stamps or other marks to help ID this?

If your cabinet is for beauty rather than an investment, you can do as much or as little as you like, but the original hardware is an artistic feature of the complete design, so I'm happy to see you interested in careful handling. Architectural Digest has an article online called "How to Clean Brass: 7 Expert Tips to Polish Like a Pro." This article even lists good brass polishes by name.

thank you Maggie. It is an investment. I don't want to change anything, I wouldn't dare. I want to make sure to take care of it properly as to preserve it, not damage it. The top is really dusty and needs to be cleaned, like the wood detailing on the sides. I am trying to find out the correct way to clean the wood as well as the hardware properly. Thank you for the info.

Check inside the drawers for the manufacturer.

  • You might bring pictures to an appraiser or generous antique dealer to find out more information. Your hardware is likely not real brass as larger commercial manufacturers didn’t use that material, rather zinc alloy and laid a finish over it.

  • The bottom of a drawer or the inside of a drawer can occasionally contain manufacturer information. You might ask a nearby antique merchant if they have a picture of the china cabinet.
