How do I remove the top of an old oak rolltop desk?

Linda Apodaca on Jul 15, 2015Ours just lifts off. It is held on with pegs. If yours is glued, that would be more challenging.Helpful Reply

Eileen on Jul 15, 2015maybe you could try a hair dryer to warm the glue, then gently use putty knife or painters 5-in-1 tool to start separating the two pieces. Depending on the age of the desk, look on the underside of the top, sometimes they (the top roll part) are screwed in from the bottom. Have fun & enjoy!Helpful Reply

Terrie Brockmann on Jul 16, 2015I would sell the desk and buy one that is more your preferred style. Roll top desks are very popular and plain desks are more abundant.Helpful Reply
