How can I repurpose my 4 poster bed?

My 4 poster bed has always attracted monkey-minded grandsons. The set is 20 yrs old, & I love that it reminds me of my grandmother's set! But we are downsizing & need to make changes. Any ideas on this? And on repurposing the poster 'remains? Sniff, sniff.
Poster floor to top is 7'4"
We love the color & style of the set.

Why not see if one of your kids could use the four poster bed and keep it in the family.

Nana Beth, I feel your pain. The bed that my husband and I bought for our first apartment together, and brought to our first home, and slept in for 38 years held a lot of memories.

When my husband passed away it held even more sentiment. Unfortunately when I had the carpet replaced the installers broke the footboard and even though they repaired it it did not hold up. I was devastated. I was jolted into a reality that I really didn't want to face...time to get rid of the bed. I cut the cannonball posts off and put the rest to the curb.

Over the years, I used the cannonballs for "feet" on an upcycle kitchen island. I used parts for candlesticks. Other parts for lifts on shelving.

So what I am trying to say, the memories are in your heart and the reminders can surround you.

    Wishing you many happy memories...

You could donate the set to a battered women's shelter if it is in good condition.

Oh, these posts brought tears to my eyes. The "monkey minded grandsons" and the broken bed. Life can be very poignant but you both have great attitudes!

Sorry you have to downsize. You could make the bed into a beautiful bench. Keep the poles and possibly make a canopy over the bench.

Oh, downsizing is neither a bad nor sad choice for us! Too many closets, cabinets, alcoves & rooms are, along with what is gathered & stored within! We're going functional & low maintenance, with a flair, LOL. There's so much maintenance hiding in just the prep to sell, especially outside.
