To complete the job so that the new upholstery stays in place and the job looks similar to a professional, you will need to obtain the correct tools and learn how to use them the right way. These tools are not inexpensive.

Hello. I might depend on your sewing skills. Upholstery fabric fabric can be quite expensive and it’s not a project I’m confident undertaking with my personal sewing skills. I would suggest using a dropcloth canvas for beginners.

Some tips to consider.....in addition to suggestions already given.
Fabric selection..... choose a fabric you love that does not have a large pattern that needs to be matched where seams, arms, etc., meet other areas of the couch.
Fabric.....be sure to purchase more than enough fabric....you can always use the extra for a pillow or two later.
Tools.....get a good stapler that is easy for you to handle. Some are bulky and too large or need a lot of pressure applied to work correctly.
An extra pair of hands is extremely helpful!
Don't do the job in a hurry!
