I agree with Harry. Sawzall (or hacksaw and elbow grease) cap with 4 pcs (painted) PVC caps and RTV silicone to hold in place. -

I think you would need to saw the top from the bottom & then find some type of finials or post tops to put into the open holes left after sawing off the top. It would give them a finished look & help avoid any accidents from the cut edges froming sawing! -

Cut it off halfway up the legs of top bunk. (Be sure to cut them evenly) You will then have another bed you could use or sell on. Could buy Caps for the tops and bottoms..............
